Heirloom Fish Paintings

Painting of the week

prints

How are they painted?

After a photograph is taken and submitted to Herring River Studio, Craig painstakingly paints the fish to actual size and color in a time consuming 3 to 6 month long (more or less) process using layers and layers of thin oil glaze to create a painting with incredible depth and dimension.

Time and again the paintings are actually mistaken for three dimensional wall mounts! Shown on the right is an example of a photo and the finished painting. Other finished paintings are shown below. Prints of each work are available in a variety of sizes.

How do you commission a painting?

Simply email your photo along with the actual dimensions of the fish you want painted and Craig will get back to you with a proposal detailing the price and finished canvas size and request a deposit to start the painting. Craig will email progress photos and show you photos of your work in progress. Once completed the painting will be shipped when final payment is made!

Prices start at $2,000.00 (although smaller fish less than 10" may go for less) and go up from there. Any size is possible and any fish species is fair game.
Actual rainbow trout, 18-1/2" long, caught and released on the Yellowstone River.
Finished painting on a 20" x 10" canvas.
